Students at Balama Elementary School

Students at Balama Elementary School

Balama Elementary School

Balama Elementary School is continuing to prosper with over 200 kids (219 students -123 boys and 96 girls). A key issue that we are now facing is the attrition of girls out of the school due to teen pregnancy.

The school started the Sept 2011/June 2012 year with 49 girls enrolled in the Nursery and Kindergarten classes, while only 18 girls returned to the third - sixth grade classes. Balama School is currently making plans to introduce health and hygiene as a subject to help boys and girls understand their development and consequences of their actions. We are praying for a volunteer to help us develop an elementary curriculum (kids enrolled have a very wide age range) in health and hygiene.
